Our Impact
The Parkinson Council invested $317,810 in grant funding to local organizations for 2023.
Dan Aaron Stay Fit Exercise Program at Arcadia
- Stay Fit Exercise Program – Funding for salaries and benefits for one PT to staff the Stay Fit virtual classes, compensation for one PT to lead in-person courses, and supplies.
Cooper Neurological Institute/Cooper University Hospital
- Funding to provide salary support for one part-time licensed clinical social worker for family counseling, health benefits navigation, and facilitating contact with local support groups.
- Research on the long-term fate of mDA progenitors derived from En1-tdTomato hiPS reporter cells in a rat model of Parkinson’s disease.
- Funding for patient and caregiver guides for the Parkinson’s PALS program, a novel peer mentorship program led by a group of patient leaders in collaboration with Jefferson Parkinson’s Disease Movement Center.
- Home Visit Program.
- Funding support for PT and Aides to continue three in-person sessions a week in Elkins Park and an additional second weekly session in the Olney neighborhood.
- Funding support for choir meetings and activities.
Penn Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center
- Counseling – Continued salary support for two counselors who facilitate support groups.
- Social Worker – Funding support for Social Worker for newly established palliative Adult Children Care partner support group.
- Accessible Programs for Individuals with Parkinson’s Disease and their Care Partners – Funding support for a coordinator, educator, supplies, parking, and technology for 20 workshops in a hybrid format (virtual and in-person).
- Funding for an outpatient medical social worker to do outreach and education with a focus on DBS.
University of Delaware – Nurse Managed Care Center
- Comprehensive care and treatment, including psychological and carepartner support.
Movement Programs (Virtual and In-Person):
- Dance for PD (Bryn Mawr and Center City in person).
- MissionPD – virtual and in-person exercise classes.
- Yoga4Philly – weekly classes at Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Why do we do it?
Our mission is to invest in regional nonprofits and institutions dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with Parkinson’s disease, their families, and care-partners. We strengthen our role in the Parkinson’s community by increasing the number of lives we touch every year.
